A beautiful matching pair of vintage cardboard presentation chocolate boxes manufactured by the famous Joseph Terry & Sons Ltd of York, England.
Designed in a miniature "treasure chest" or "casket" shape with distinctive domed tops, these decorative containers originally held luxury chocolate assortments.
Perfect for vintage styling, prop use, shelve styling or a sweet addition to a vanity table!
The History:
Era: Early-to-mid 1970s. The bottom bases are stamped with the official manufacturer text including the post-1970s York postcode (YO1 1YE).
The Design: They feature lovely 18th-century Baroque/Rococo-style romantic pastoral scenes, finished with embossed gold foil faux-gilded borders.
The Branding: The pink box still retains its original black and gold Terry's factory price/weight label on the back.
Condition Report (Please Read Carefully):
These are fragile cardboard items over 50 years old, so they show authentic vintage wear:
The Outside: There is general fading to the pink and blue inks, paper scuffing along the corners, and natural age-related discoloration/yellowing. The blue box has a linear flattening/dent along the slope of the lid. The pink box has a focal indentation right on the peak of the domed lid (see close-up photos). There is fading and discoloration on both boxes.
The Inside: For their age they are in incredible condition but they have discoloured spots. Please see photos.
Bonus Ephemera: The pink box contains its original gold cardboard tiered insert tray. The blue box retains its textured paper liner featuring the embossed factory clock tower and the slogan "Chocolates of Distinction by Terry's York".
